Crazy that people actually are willing to work there - for nothing but the chance to create shiny little electronics.

And it is always stunning to me how much organizations mirror their founder's personality. Scientology is exactly as psychopathic, greedy, absurd and paranoid as Ron Hubbard.... oh, and I can pretty much say just that about Apple and Steve Jobs - just add perfectionism.

Re: The secrets Apple keeps -

All I want as a consumer is wonderful, paradigm-defying products to keep rolling out of Cupertino. However they manage, it must be working for them, since they now have more money than most small countries. Steve Jobs accomplished something that very few CEOs do - he instilled his company not only with a successful work ethic, but with a bit of his own eccentric personality. Seriously, re-read this article and replace the references to Apple as a company with "Steve Jobs". By most accounts, he was secretive, paranoid, distant and detached with outsiders and almost hostile to insiders. And yet, Apple thrives.

Re: The secrets Apple keeps -

Apple represents everything thats wrong with companies. Shiny Outsides - Rotten Core in the middle. If running your company like a North Korean Gulag to make the best product is considered the Bar.. Apple has to purge the poison that was Steve Jobs management style... The Wizard of Oz, didn't have a torture chamber behind the screen. Mr Burns treats his nuclear employees with more respect. In order for any company to thrive, it needs to protect its strategies from its competitors. That is why nearly all companies have confidentiality agreements. The larger and more innovative a company is, the more important it is to protect its strategy and business secrets. Any child or idiot knows this as a matter of common sense. Why the author of this article feels that he or anyone else should have some sense of entitlement beyond a need-to-know basis is incredible. Maybe some people just have to have the gossip, just have to be on the in, just can't focus on their own work and needs to be an interfering busy-body. It is exactly because of these sorts of busybodies that companies like Apple need to build walls and frost their windows: Because there are some people that just love to pry, and it's also these same complaining morons with an insecurity complex and fragile ego that the company will unwittingly offend at some point in time, and who will then take the companies secrets directly to their competitor. Why CNN would publish garbage like this is beyond me. It pisses me off just knowing that there are morons who have the audacity to think they are entitled to other people's secrets.

Re: The secrets Apple keeps -

They'll hate anything and everything because they're miserable little beings. I my self have been a Mac user since 1987 because everything else on the market (PC's) sucked. Call me a fanboy if you like but I can say with confidence Apple always lead th market with superior products And superior customer service. Have you haters ever walked into a Apple store and gone to the Genius bar for help? (first make an appointment online) The staff will do everything possible to correct the problem and if it's hardware they have the best exchange program even if the product is past warranty. I work in the entertainment industry and let me tell you what goes on at Apple is no different then in any busness and creative environment where successful products and services are produce. Why does anyone need to know more the what they are working on? Curiosity I guess? Remember the old proverb "curiosity killed the cat", the cat in this case meaning your organization. All you lackies who sit in your mom's basement all day and night because you have no life can hate all you want, that's transparent enough to everyone reading your posts!

Re: The secrets Apple keeps -

And as far as innovation goes, Apple hasn't got an original idea in it's collective brain. They poach ideas from others, slap it in a pretty package, make sure it lasts 3 days beyond the warranty, cripple the device so only the Cupertino minions can control the stupid piece of crap and then laugh all the way to the off-shore bank! Quick Time slows your machine down. iTunes is a piece of shiite. iDevices are jokes, as they can't do Flash or Shockwave; thanks to the pissing match between Jobs and Adobe.... Hmmmm, a 700 dollar piece of trash that can't answer calls, can't surf the net, and can't play all your music! But, look how pretty it is! Look how pretty it's 3.5" puny screen is.... Innovation, indeed!

Re: The secrets Apple keeps -

Apple does not sit back and wait to copy others, others wait and copy them. For examples, IBM PC was a copy of Apple II, Windows is a (horrible) copy of Mac OS, Zune was a pathetic copy of iPod. But Google copies Apple too--See Android (blatant rip off of iPhone). And they tried to copy iPad, but so far, nothing has stuck to the frige.

There is more to this, just stating some obvious facts, but it's time for you to take your meds.

Re: The secrets Apple keeps -

Where are netbooks today? People dumped them for laptops. The Air was not a response to the netbook. You may get paid the same as someone running a tube sock department in a factory somewhere, but the idea that you are creating something that people get excited about makes you want to work your tail off creating more cool stuff. As long as you are doing what you enjoy and are good at, who cares what some other department is doing?

To me it is like being in a successful band. If someone doesn't have the chops, the drive, and the energy to make it to the top, they belong in some other band where they don't make much money but they get free beer. Nothing personal, but today's American work ethic is not about excellence but about punching a clock, going home and watching TV. Those who work in an atmosphere in which excellence is the standard and in which they can see the impact of this excellence on millions of people should consider themselves lucky.
